KOPWA’s culture of improvement

Aged care facilities in Australia are subject to strict standards and must undergo regular accreditation assessments in order to continue to operate.

While some organisations struggle to pass accreditation each year, we are proud to announce that KOPWA passed our recent assessment and fulfilled every single one of the required standards.

Accreditation is a stringent process which requires aged care providers to give evidence of compliance with strict industry regulations. After a great deal of work to prepare for the assessment, we were pleased to see that the final report highlighted areas of clinical care and organisational excellence.

Why is KOPWA an accredited aged care facility?

Our team is committed to delivering premium care for all residents and home care clients. Across all our staff, we adhere to the following every day:

  • Our residents feel respected, are treated with dignity and kindness, and acknowledge the quality care they receive from our caring and competent staff
  • Staff understand and value our residents’ individual circumstances and life journeys, including staff awareness of cultural background and personal identities
  • We frequently consult residents on their interests, beliefs and preferences and review them where required so that residents have the opportunity to participate in events of social significance
  • KOPWA has extensive planning and proper execution of residents’ care and lifestyle plans from a risk-based perspective while balancing our duty of care to encourage independence, safety and social connections
  • Communication amongst staff and between residents was freely accessible by assessors
  • Our spacious facility is designed to support sensory and cognitive losses within a homelike feel. The clean and modern environment optimises residents’ sense of belonging and independence. There are plenty of areas to encourage free movement within and outside the facility, and interactive activities for social connections
  • KOPWA provides mandatory and further relevant training and additional support wherever staff requires it. This means our care team has the confidence to deliver excellent care and has sufficient time to complete daily tasks to meet residents’ needs.
  • There is a stringent but consultative organisational governance structure to ensure the initiated plans secure ongoing and future care resources for our residents.

At KOPWA, we make open discussions with our residents and their families a priority, aim to always be transparent when it comes to decisions and policies, and have a culture of continuous improvement. This is part of what makes our north shore aged care facility our clients’ number one choice for lifestyle and living.

Being accredited means we can continue to offer our quality aged care services but does not mean we will rest on our laurels. We are all too aware that ‘best practice’ in aged care is ever-changing and are constantly reviewing and updating policies so we can make positive progress as an industry leader.

Finally, we never see minimum standards as good enough. It’s important to us that every resident and home care client feels like family at KOPWA.

We look forward to bringing you further good news of subsequent accreditation assessments in the years to come.
