Remember to look after yourself…too.

We know

  • Family is important
  • Trusting someone else to look after your loved ones is a huge risk
  • You have long ‘to do’ lists which you have been trying to cross off, but have no idea when to complete them or why the lists are getting longer
  • You secretly cry and tell yourself it will all be OK, and you need to be strong for the person you are caring for

The advice new mothers usually receive is “Remember to look after yourself too.” Why is it people become hesitant to give the same advice to a carer with an ageing family member or friend, or someone with a disability? Does society tend to overlook these deserving carers and assume they possess super heroic abilities to manage the physical, emotional and mental work?

At KOPWA, we see families under stress. We hear of your stories of needing to go away for a while. We work closely with you and your loved ones to make sure their short stay with us will be comfortable, safe, clean, healthy and happy.

Do you want to take charge of your wellbeing in 2018?

Finish up that to-do list. Go on your holiday. Let us look after your family member or friend for you.

Getting respite for your loved family member or friend is not just caring for yourself, but also caring for them. When you look after yourself, you are able to manage stress in a more effective way, and the relationship you have with the person you are caring for has proven to improve.

Remember, respite care is only for short period of time. BUT this seemingly short period is YOUR time to recharge and to take charge when you have them back in your care.
