Why are we redveloping?

The founders of KOPWA saw the importance of human welfare and tirelessly made it their mission to serve in community groups within the Ku ring gai area, which led to long-standing social justice groups such as Meals on Wheels being established. Furthering their mission, they saw the shortage and need for housing and assistance to the elderly. Years leading up to November 1979, through the generosity of people of Ku Ring Gai, the staff and residents officially moved into the current residential space – Archbold House.
Forty years of being in Archbold House, KOPWA continues to hold the purpose and recognises the need to expand its facility to welcome new residents in these modern times. The importance of providing more residential beds is especially so for the elderly who have lived in the area and therefore, the need to redevelop the current premises. This development project is a significant milestone for the organisation which began with a community fundraising effort for the people of Roseville to age in their own community, and today we are aspiring to maintain the service to the local community.

The tender process of selecting the most suitable builder for the redevelopment of KOPWA’s project is underway. The demolition and construction phases of KOPWA’s redevelopment project on Trafalgar Avenue will commence in the next couple of months.

The new development will be a 102 single standard size bedrooms of 27sqm with multiple sitting areas and dining areas. The design will integrate a safe environment for those living with dementia. There will be an underground basement with ample car parking, kitchen, laundry services, maintenance room and chemical storage areas. Having the residents in mind, resident support rooms, such as consulting rooms for Doctors, physiotherapy rooms, therapy session rooms and administrative offices. There are plans to include a cafe for special social moments where residents and families can enjoy.
